News items

Competition result – Congratulations to Peter Campbell for wining the Brenig winter competition. There was some stiff competiton with several members of the Welsh and British Fly Fishing teams participating in the event. Several other club members also fished the competition. Peter emerged as the overall winner and bagged a handsome cheque and a top of the range boat fishing seat. Welll done Peter!

Bookings – Please ensure any fishing trips are booked using Clubmate. If you have trouble booking contact a committee member, the contact details are on your membership card.

Brenig – As previously announced we have now taken 4 rods at Brenig which, for the time being, will be 2 on a Wednesday and 2 on a Sunday. Brenig are still open to us having flexible rods and we have to find a way around making this work on Clubmate and ensuring that members follow the guidelines and don’t overbook. The committee took this decision to provide continuing still water fishing to club members following the withdrawal of Chirk and we feel the additional rods maintain variety in our portfolio.

Meetings – Will be held as normal on the first Tuesday of every month commencing at 7.30pm.. This will be barring outside influences and any issues that may arise at the rugby club.

3 February – Water meeting and report from Dave Humphreys

3 March – Tackle auction with a chance to sell any unwanted tackle and bag a bargain.

7 April – Cheese and wine night with a quiz hosted by Mike Grundy.

5 May – We hope Richard Peirce from Natural Resources Wales will grace us again

2 June – Field night with Trevor and Paul.

7 July – Guest speaker to be announced

4 August – Beer and chat.

1 September – Guest speaker to be announced

6 October – AGM.

3 November – Subs night.

1 December – Hot pot supper and presentation night.

Presidents Cup – Was fished in October last year and was won by Jim Buckley. The Presidents Shield went to Ian Challinor. Well done to both, and a good turn out by members. Barring any unforeseen circumstances the Presidents Cup will again be held at Ellerdine on 25 October 2026.

Outings – Just a reminder that the outings are to promote freindship and fellowship between members. The Aggregate Cup was introduced to provide some excitement and competition to the outings. The most important thing is being there and taking part!

Outing venues for 2025

April – Sunday 26th Mere Beck

May – Sunday 31th Ellerdine

June – Sunday 28th Llyn Brenig

July – Sunday 26th Pennine Fishery

August – holiday month

September – Sunday 27th Loynton Trout fishery

Due to weather and local conditions venues or dates may be subject to change, we will endeavour to keep members informed. We have avoided Bank Holiday weekends for the outings this year as we had two Bank Holiday clashes last year. We will let members know the cost for each venue once the 2026 prices have been published. We will be hiring Mere Beck again for sole use and then sharing the cost between the members who attend, this was £15 each in 2025.

To avoid the club suffering unnecessary financial penalty please attend if you say you are going to an outing. For some outings we may ask for a deposit in advance. Gary Davis, as the Outing Secretary, will lead each outing supported by various committee members.

We are looking forward to a good and productive season in 2026. We will do our best to keep you informed of any changes.

Best wishes,

Steve Rogers and the Committee
